Jesus in the Midst

COVID-19 continues to be a threat worldwide.  Millions have died and variants of the virus have mutated causing new spikes for infections.  It has now been over a year that the World Health Organization has declared a pandemic.  Many people have lost loved ones, their jobs, and even their sanity.  Some have lost hope and people have even committed suicide.  It has been a really difficult 13 months.  But there is hope.  Vaccines have been shown to be effective and are slowly being rolled out around the world.  And perhaps soon, we can visit loved ones and travel again.

At CIM, even though many of our ministries have grounded to a halt and all our STM trips are still on hold, we see our Lord at work.  Our international worker to Ghana, Janice Wong, continues to work with students and visit the village schools that CIM Canada supports.  In her latest blog, she shares about Elijah whom she has seen grow over the years and how God is definitely at work in the lives of people.

Despite all the doom and gloom that people are feeling, as Christ-followers, we celebrated the resurrection of Jesus Christ this month at Easter and because of that single event, we all have hope. As you may know, our dear brother and board director, Siu Lui Ho, has been battling stomach cancer for some time now. In his own words, “I am now left pondering: how should I face death? Death doesn’t feel natural. I always believed I was made for life, not death. It’s why many of us feel scared and uncomfortable with death though it is inevitable.” As he faces the reality of terminal cancer and his own mortality, he also shared this video on Easter Sunday on the victory through Jesus Christ. May his testimony encourage and bless you.

CIM Canada exists because of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The apostle Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 15: 3-4:

For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,

And then in verses 12-14 he states:

But if it is preached that Christ has been raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith.

Jesus Christ rose from the dead and because of that we have hope, pandemic or not.

In light of everything that is happening right now, do we see Jesus in the midst of it?  In our own struggles and trials, do we turn to Jesus?

He’s there. He rose from the dead.  He’s alive.  He is our Risen Saviour and until we encounter Him, we will not be able to make sense of our tragedies or this pandemic.  We need to make Him number one in our lives.  We need to build a strong personal relationship with Him.  He needs to be more than just a Biblical figure out of an ancient book.  We need to know Him so much more than that.  We need to accept Him as our Personal Saviour, meet Him first hand, serve Him, and spread His Word.  That is how we get our hope back.  After the apostles saw him first hand in His post-resurrection appearances, they regained hope and spread the gospel to the rest of the world. CIM Canada exists today to continue to spread the good news worldwide.

Pray with us:

  • Pray for the ministries of CIM, not only in Ghana, Togo, and to the Roma people group, but also for the ministries in South Africa, Brazil, and Cambodia through our CIM family in the USA, Australia, and Hong Kong.

  • Please continue to pray for donations to fund our work in Canada.

  • Pray for the Ghana village school building and renovation projects in Yeji and Mbowura.  Pray that these projects will be completed soon.

  • Pray for the ministry workers who are currently working amongst the Romas in the settlements in the Uzhhorod area of western Ukraine.  CIM is now supporting 6 Roma pastors in partnership with House of Mercy.  Many of the Roma communities and workers have been hit hard with the COVID-19 pandemic.  In some villages, close to 80% are ill.  Many have not been tested or vaccinated.

  • Pray for the planning and preparation of a virtual meeting with the Roma pastors.  Due to the ongoing pandemic, it has been hard to finalize a date.

  • Pray for healing for our board member, Siu Lui Ho.

  • Pray for CIM USA and Christine Pi as she has announced her retirement as Executive Director.  CIM USA is currently recruiting for an Executive Director successor, as well as a Director of Ministry.
