be a blessing
As many of you may know, my journey to Ghana started in 2009. The children from the ECG school in Kpandai captivated my heart and changed my life…my relationship with God, my worldview, my understanding of what it means to be a disciple of Christ and even the country I would eventually call home. Their smiles & stories gave me a new perspective and deepened my sense of God’s own heart for all his people.
I have shared the following story with many of you before, but this testimony continues to be one that encourages me. For the sake of protecting his identity, I’ll call my friend Elijah. Elijah is from an Islamic family, but at a young age, his family enrolled him to attend the ECG mission school to receive a quality education. Three years ago, Elijah joined a Christian student group on campus & eventually accepted Jesus as his personal saviour. I will always remember his story & how he told me he accepted Christ. To give a little context, in Ashanti culture, children are named according to the day of the week they are born. So, Elijah’s Ashanti name is Kweku, which means “Wednesday born male.” Elijah said, “I’ll never forget the day I accepted Christ to come into my life. The day I accepted Christ, I jotted the date down on the top of my school notebook. I am a Wednesday born, and the day I accepted Christ was also a Wednesday.” What may be seen as a small detail is profoundly personal to Elijah. I love how God is a personal & relational being. His heart is for a personal relationship with all of His children.
The Village School Ministry (VSM) is a local ministry initiated by the Evangelical Church of Ghana, in partnership with CIM Canada. The VSM provides educational opportunities for children in the remote villages of Ghana who do not otherwise have the opportunity to attend school. The schools are a channel to share the gospel with students, just like in Elijah’s story.
We are calling out to our CIM community to take part in adopting a school so that we can further God’s kingdom through the Village School Ministry in rural Ghana. We are blessed to be a blessing! Will you partner with us in making a monthly or one-time financial contribution towards collectively adopting a school?
Many of you are already generously supporting my ministry in Ghana on a monthly basis or through special contributions. Thank you so much for being a blessing. May God continue to bless us immeasurably so that we can be a blessing to all. Please let me know how I can be praying with you & your family.
With love,
Janice Wong
